The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Assistant Manager, Applications to provide a critical role within the Post Sentence Branch of Corrections Victoria. About the Business Unit Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult corrections system and manages 11 public prisons, one transition centre, and oversees three privately operated prisons. It ensures prisoners are safely and securely contained and aims to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour. The Reintegration and Engagement Services Division of Corrections Victoria is responsible for providing best practice interventions which aim to reduce the risk of reoffending including quality assurance systems for risk assessment and case management, offending behaviour programs, and transition and reintegration supports. The Reintegration and Engagement Services Division has responsibility for the post-sentence supervision scheme and is also responsible for the management of post sentence facilities. The Post Sentence Branch, within the Reintegration and Engagement Services Division of Corrections Victoria, provides central oversight and governance of the post sentence scheme and offenders subject to post sentence orders. The Serious Offenders Act 2018 (SOA) sets out a civil, non-punitive scheme that provides for the ongoing supervision or detention of serious sex and/or serious violent offenders who have completed their sentence and pose an unacceptable risk of committing further relevant offences. Corrections Victoria's end-to-end management and delivery of services to serious offenders on post-sentence orders occurs through a multi-faceted governance and operating model. About the Role The position of Assistant Manager, Applications is a leadership role in a team responsible for ensuring that high quality, timely applications are made for offenders who are identified as suitable for, or are already subject to, a Detention or Supervision Order pursuant to the legislation. Please note in this role you will be exposed to sensitive and explicit material relating to serious sex and serious violent offending on a regular basis. Some of your duties will include: Coordinate the application process for new applications, reviews and renewals under the SOA. Represent the Secretary at court for applications, renewals, revocations and/or reviews of orders pursuant to the SOA. Prepare reports, briefs and correspondence for senior executives and the Minister for Corrections in relation to applications and reviews for Supervision and Detention Orders under the SOA and ensure applications are filed in line with court expectations. Manage the preparation of recommendation reports for court, special reports to the Post Sentence Authority, identification/approval of accommodation and service options. Manage the timely dissemination of information to legal representatives and departmental witnesses in support of applications, reviews and renewals. About you To be successful in this role, you will have: Proven ability to work within a highly complex service delivery area, preferably in relation to individuals with multiple and complex needs and/or within a legislative framework. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of court processes and ability to competently provide evidence before the courts*. Awareness of current and emerging issues in the management of complex and/or high-profile offenders. Qualifications/requirements Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience working in a Correctional environment and/or within a legislative framework is desirable, but not mandatory. The position requires you to be assessed as suitable to provide evidence at court on behalf of the Secretary within 12 months of commencement in the role.
