12-Month Maternity Leave Contract Location: Rockdale (onsite, 5 days per week) Attractive salary package A dynamic local government organisation is seeking an experienced Lead Digital Communications and Media professional to join the team on a 12-month maternity leave contract. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll shape and deliver digital communication strategies that drive engagement, strengthen brand presence, and protect reputation. You’ll oversee digital platforms, media relations, and campaigns, ensuring communications are innovative, impactful, and community-focused. This position is based onsite in Rockdale, five days per week. Key Responsibilities Develop and deliver digital communication strategies aligned with organisational priorities. Lead content creation across social media, websites, newsletters, and campaigns. Manage proactive and reactive media relations, including press releases and briefings. Monitor online activity and respond to reputational issues effectively. Analyse digital performance metrics and provide data-driven insights. Ensure consistent, engaging, and on-brand messaging across all channels. Manage and coordinate the communications and media function, ensuring alignment with Council’s strategic priorities. Lead a team of up to eight direct reports overseeing publications, social media, digital, and website functions. Drive the implementation of a refreshed digital strategy, including a major website redevelopment and centralised asset management. Ensure effective planning and delivery of communications, media responses, campaigns, and community engagement initiatives. About You You’re a digitally savvy communicator with strong experience in media, communications, and brand management. You thrive in fast-paced, community-focused environments and have a track record of delivering results through creative, strategic communications. You will bring: Tertiary qualifications in digital communications, journalism, or a related field. 5–7 years’ experience in a senior communications or media role. Strong expertise in media relations, social media, and content development. Experience managing reputational risks proactively. Demonstrated ability to use analytics to measure and improve performance. Flexibility to work outside of regular hours as required. Proven people leadership experience – ability to manage and motivate a diverse team in a busy environment. Strong track record in communications, media, and digital strategy delivery. Experience managing multiple complex projects with competing priorities. Political acumen and the ability to navigate a local government context.
