20th March, 2026 About the Role An exciting opportunity exists for a highly experienced Senior Actuary to play a pivotal leadership role within a NSW Government Department. This position will provide strategic actuarial advice and leadership to support the financial sustainability and effective stewardship of regulated schemes. You will work at the forefront of actuarial governance, analytics, and policy influence—helping shape decisions that impact large-scale public outcomes. A key focus of this role is to establish and embed a high-performing internal actuarial function , including governance frameworks, best practices, and repeatable processes. Key Responsibilities Support the Chief Actuary in setting strategy and building internal actuarial capability Lead and develop a team of actuarial professionals delivering high-quality analysis and insights Provide expert actuarial advice across pricing, reserving, forecasting, and reporting Oversee scheme monitoring to assess sustainability, performance drivers, and emerging risks Conduct and lead peer review of actuarial work (internal and external) Translate complex actuarial modelling into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders Drive continuous improvement, automation, and quality assurance across actuarial processes Engage with a wide range of stakeholders, influencing decisions at senior levels About You You are a strategic and technically strong actuary with proven leadership experience and the ability to operate in complex environments. You will bring: Significant actuarial experience within general insurance or personal injury schemes Strong understanding of claim cost drivers, scheme dynamics, and emerging risks Demonstrated experience in peer review and actuarial governance Proven ability to lead teams and deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage non-technical stakeholders Experience building or enhancing actuarial functions and frameworks Advanced skills in Excel and familiarity with tools such as R, Python, and SQL Essential Requirements Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA) or equivalent Tertiary qualification in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field Minimum 7 years actuarial experience , including leadership experience Proven experience managing actuarial analysts and delivering complex workstreams If you are looking to step into a high-impact leadership role where your expertise will shape strategic outcomes, we encourage you to apply.
