Job description Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union QLD & NT Branch The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union is one of Australia’s largest trade unions and covers workers in many areas including metals and engineering, manufacturing, rail, defence and aerospace, scientific and technical, print and vehicle manufacturing. The AMWU has a full-time position available for an Industrial Officer based in our Brisbane Office. The position may involve some regional and interstate travel. The position involves working with members, potential members, union delegates and other Officials and Officers of the AMWU and other Unions and employers. The commencing salary is $105,495 - $127,794 superannuation dependent on experience. Typical duties: Advising members, delegates and officials about the full spectrum of industrial rights including disciplinary/safety matters, dismissals, entitlements disputes, underpayment or wages claims, right of entry, WHS, bargaining disputes and protected industrial action matters. End to end case and expectation management of the complete spectrum of member matters. Where required, initiating and appearing in proceedings in the relevant Courts and Tribunals including the Fair Work Commission ( FWC ), Federal Court, Magistrates Court and Queensland Industrial Relations Commission ( QIRC ). Preparing witness statements and submissions in the relevant Courts and Tribunals. Preparing Protected Industrial Action Ballot applications and issuing notices of industrial action. Providing strategic advice to the State Secretary and Officials and Officers on complex industrial matters requiring advocacy and industrial representation as a means of consolidation and resolution. Research and monitoring of industrial law developments. Preparation of submissions for internal and external inquiries. Provide timely updates and training on IR changes to members, Delegates, HSR’s and Officials on their rights and entitlements at work. Adhering to requirements of the Fair Work Act, WHS Act and other Acts and Instruments affecting your employment. Follow directions of the State Secretary. Work with and Report to: Lead Industrial Officer QLD/NT State Secretary Essential Selection Criteria Demonstrated commitment to trade union values High standard of work ethic and self-motivation High emotional intelligence – Much of the work we do is with individuals in crisis. Demonstrated experience in writing submissions, reports or policy documents Demonstrated skills in research, critical analysis, diagnostic interpretation and industrial advocacy Qualification in Law and experience in trade union background highly regarded Ability to read and interpret a clause in the Fair Work Act, an Enterprise Agreement/Award and understand industrial relations legislation Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve industrial conflict Must be able to demonstrate strong negotiation skills Demonstrated ability to establish, develop and maintain working relationships to the benefit of our members Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Computer literate Current Driver’s Licence No restriction on holding a State or Federal right of entry/WHS permit hours: 38 hours per week Monthly RDO next steps To submit your application, please click ' Apply Now ' by the closing date.
