The opportunity The Senior Planning Investigation Officer leads investigations into planning compliance matters across Hobsons Bay, using a mix of education, negotiation, and formal enforcement to resolve issues. Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, in this role you'll protect community amenity by ensuring adherence to the Planning and Environment Act, the Hobsons Bay Planning Scheme and related legislation, including representing Council at VCAT and the Magistrates Court. What you’ll be doing Leading planning investigations, compliance actions and enforcement processes under relevant legislation Providing authoritative advice to Council, stakeholders and the community on planning enforcement matters Preparing evidence, submissions and representations for VCAT, Magistrates Court and other forums Conducting site inspections, assessing complaints and collaborating with internal teams and agencies Using professional judgement to resolve planning breaches without supervision What you'll need to succeed Tertiary qualification in Town Planning (or related field) plus experience in planning investigations and enforcement Strong knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act, Hobsons Bay Planning Scheme, Local Laws and related legislation Well developed communication, conflict resolution and stakeholder management skills Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver effective investigation and compliance outcomes Current Victorian driver’s licence Construction Induction (White Card) desirable To be considered for this role applications should include A maximum 2-page cover letter which should outline your interest in the role A current CV which includes key achievements & relevant qualifications Uncover more about this role in the Position Description attached below, or contact Arthur Vatzakis, Manager Planning, Building and Health Services via careers@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au Applications will be accepted until 11:30pm on 9 April 2026 .
