About the role: The Specialist Billings Officer is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Avant Practice Solutions medical billing services, ensuring timely and accurate processing of Medicare, health fund, and private billing. The role involves managing the onboarding of new providers, providing expert advice, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and contractual obligations. This is a key customer-facing role requiring a high level of accuracy, stakeholder communication, and service excellence. This is a permanent full-time opportunity, based in Melbourne. Key responsibilities: Billing Operations & Claims Management Supervise the preparation, submission, and reconciliation of medical claims (Medicare, DVA, WorkCover, private insurers). Monitor claim cycles and ensure timely follow-up on unpaid or rejected claims. Resolve complex billing queries or discrepancies escalated by staff or clients. Compliance & Process Improvement Ensure adherence to Medicare and private health fund regulations Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes to billing codes, rules, and legislation. Identify opportunities to streamline billing processes and implement efficiency improvements. Stakeholder Engagement Serve as a primary point of contact for high-value clients and practitioners. Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., finance, legal, technology) to address client and system-related billing concerns. Prepare reports and insights for internal and external stakeholders on billing performance and trends. Manage the onboarding of new providers. Skills and experience required: Essential Minimum 5 years' experience in medical billing. Strong understanding of Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS), DVA, WorkCover, and health fund billing rules. High attention to detail with strong numerical and analytical skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient in medical practice software (e.g., Genie, Best Practice, Zedmed) and Microsoft Office Suite. Desirable Previous experience in a billing services company or group practice setting. Familiarity with digital claim submission platforms (e.g. Medicare Online, ECLIPSE). Qualification in Health Administration, Business, or similar field.
