We have a unique opportunity for a Legal Secretary to join our Pro Bono practice in Sydney or Newcastle working with Morgan Long and the national team. About role and the team Our dedicated Pro Bono Practice strives to strengthen our communities by providing free legal assistance to disadvantaged individuals, as well as eligible not-for-profit and charitable organisations. In this administrative role, you will be responsible for coordinating and supporting multiple functions including, scheduling, rostering, and managing appointments, taking calls, answering client enquiries, opening and closing files, end of month reporting/billing, and additional ad hoc administrative tasks. This is a permanent full-time role working Monday to Friday. The team promote flexibility and work/life balance; we welcome candidates who want to work flexibly in their next role. Our Pro Bono work Our Pro Bono Practice was recognised as a finalist in the Pro Bono Program of the Year category at the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards in 2023 and 2024. Pro bono legal work is highly valued by the firm and every lawyer is encouraged to participate in our Pro Bono Practice. In 2013, we signed up to the voluntary National Pro Bono Target of an average of 35 pro bono hours per lawyer, per year, which is a target we exceed each year. In FY24/25, 51% of Sparkes lawyers participated in pro bono work and averaged 42.4 hours per lawyer, with over 20,000 pro bono hours complete. Law firm experience is preferred but not essential. You must be highly organised and able to manage competing deadlines and priorities and have excellent communication skills. You will be required to travel to support pro bono outreach legal clinics in regional locations, approximately 4 times a year.
