The Assistant Director reports directly to Director Coordination - Strategy, Policy & Specialist Advice, enabling strategic leadership across ASSEA's strategy and national coordination functions. The role requires strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement and practical delivery capability in a complex policy environment to support the implementation of the Phase Three Asbestos National Strategic Plan 2024-2030 and the Silica National Strategic Plan 2024-30 . Relevant tertiary qualifications, or knowledge gained through experience aligned to the functions is highly desirable, along with knowledge and understanding of technical information and legal frameworks associated with preventing harm from exposure to hazardous materials such as asbestos and respirable crystalline silica. The key duties of the position include • Provide high-level, evidence-based policy advice and strategic insights to support governments implement the priority actions in the Asbestos and Silica National Strategic Plans. • Facilitate national coordination and collaboration by engaging and consulting with relevant government and non-government stakeholders across jurisdictions. • Monitor, review and report on the implementation of the Asbestos and Silica National Strategic Plans. • Prepare high-quality briefs, reports and advice that can influence senior decision-making. • Identify and communicate innovative solutions to address barriers and challenges associated with achieving the aims of the Asbestos and Silica National Strategic Plans, while promoting continuous improvement to enhance the agency's success. • Contribute to ASSEA's strategic agenda through identifying key policy issues aligned to ASSEA's mandated functions. • Represent ASSEA at various events, stakeholder and community meetings and forums. • Provide secretariat support for high level meetings. • Manage governance responsibilities aligned to agency delegations and public sector requirements and achieve results through well designed projects, using agreed project management approaches. • Demonstrate organisational flexibility and teamwork by undertaking other duties as directed.
