The Opportunity Whilst initially this role is to cover parental leave, joining the Department regularly opens the door to longer-term and permanent opportunities. You’ll be joining a section responsible for developing, managing, and improving secure IT systems, as well as analysing and reporting on data to inform policy and operational decision-making. Their work plays a direct role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Australians abroad, strengthening crisis response capability, and enhancing government-wide information-sharing. The Role You will play a key role in the team and assist in improving client services and user access, ensuring it’s managed effectively across the global network from the Consular Information System (CIS). CIS is a case management and notarial service record system and the crisis client registration database. You will have a consistently busy workload with changing priorities and be responsible for building and maintaining business relationships across the various functions in your section, as well as other key stakeholders including the IT Division. You will gain ongoing exposure to crisis management and consular operations particularly during times of crisis with a hands-on approach. Key responsibilities include: Manage, triage and action incredibly busy inboxes Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including across government General administration and providing support to the team Effectively update and maintain records, data and Excel spreadsheets Contributing to process improvements and knowledge management within the team The Ideal Person You are a capable administrator, with demonstrated experienced in administration, client services or as an EA within the APS. You thrive operating in fast-paced, high-stakes environments and have a passion for helping people – something you’ll be able to do a lot of in this role. This role is about helping Australians in crisis overseas; you won’t find a role much more high impact than this.
