The key duties of the position include The Role In the Directorate of Military Justice Performance and Review within the Office of the Inspector-General of the ADF, Assistant Director Audit Operations (ADAO) will be responsible to: Lead a team to implement recommendation 54 of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide (RCDVS). Lead planning for all audit activities (routine, targeted, focus group only, re-audits). Ensure routine military justice performance audits of each major Australian Defence Force (ADF) unit at least every three years, and every ab initio training establishment every two years. Additionally, audit at least three non-major units annually that are not otherwise included in the regular Directorate of Military Justice Performance Audit cycle. Oversee and support a diverse workforce comprising of Reservists and permanent APS by setting clear expectations, maintaining effective communication, managing performance, delegating responsibilities and facilitating staff development and training. Manage resources and workflows, and developing planning strategies to increase the frequency of military justice audits. Maintain the audit-planning cycle program, supervise the development of unit audit programs and communicate effectively to Defence stakeholders including unit points of contacts. Provide audit operations staff to conduct Audit activities on an ad-hoc basis to supplement the Reserve workforce where required. Problem solve, offer guidance, monitor and report on the implementation of RCDVS recommendations, manage checklists, prepare reports, engage with stakeholders, translate identified issues into actionable findings and recommend ongoing improvements to business processes. Provide policy advice and attend meetings for other military justice related RCDVS recommendations (including the military justice assurance framework being developed by Defence) to meet the IGADF's intent. Apply best practices in audit processes to align to the ASAE 3500 Auditing standards. Demonstrate strong communication and writing skills, prepare and contribute to comprehensive final audit reports. Provide input to briefs and papers for the branch, directorate and Defence. Present military justice data to various stakeholders, including senior leadership within and external to the Office of IGADF. Work closely with both the Systems and Data and Quality Assurance teams to enhance current Audit tools, spreadsheets, workflows, systems and resources. About our Team The Office supports the Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force (IGADF) in their statutory functions of overseeing the effectiveness of the military justice system. The Directorate of Military Justice Performance and Review (DMJPR) assists the IGADF to provide the Chief of the Defence Force with a mechanism for audit and review of the military justice system. Independent of the ordinary chain of command, by conducting performance reviews of the military justice system, including internal audits, in accordance with section 110C of the Defence Act 1903.DMJPR is responsible for the conduct of routine military justice performance audits of every major ADF unit every three years, and of every ab initio training establishment every two years. Audits of at least three non-major units each year that are not part of the DMJPR routine audit cycle. Our Ideal Candidate You will demonstrate: In-depth knowledge and understanding of Auditing and Assurance, audit planning and execution of audit programs. Experience in Defence internal auditing and/or assurance. Experience in managing (Reservist, APS) a diverse team. Experience in and understanding of audit assurance planning and execution of rolling audit programs.
