The key duties of the position include The Role Defence Finance Group (DFG) leads financial management across Defence, delivering financial oversight, strategies, management and assistance to achieve Defence's outcomes. Part of this function includes providing independent and contestable financial analysis, advice and assurance on capability investment proposals, as well as independent financial support, management and reporting on Defence and Government financial matters You will be a part of a team of professionals delivering accurate, timely and high-quality financial analysis and advice to the Senior Leadership Group of DFG and Defence. You will have diverse experience and skills in disciplines including finance, policy analysis, advice and/or briefing. As an Executive Level 1 Assistant Director in the IIP Financial Planning and Approvals Directorate you will play a pivotal role in Defence effectively realising the National Defence Strategy and associated reforms. You will be accountable to plan, lead and manage a team within a dynamic environment and be exposed to a range of Defence Capability projects including the key priority areas of conventionally armed nuclear-powered submarines, precision long-range strike munitions, hardening Australia's northern bases and asymmetric capability development. You will support the department by undertaking analysis and shaping advice for senior leaders on financial options, risks and implications of capability investment proposals. You will also have engagement with stakeholders across the department and with central agency colleagues. We support Defence and Government making critical financial decisions on the future of Defence capability investment by providing Defence senior leadership with trusted independent financial advice and assurance on the Integrated Investment Program. The Integrated Investment Program is investing approximately $330 billion over the next decade into complex projects and its finances require close management to meet public expectations. Information provided by this team is used to support decisions of national significance and help shape major national operations and initiatives. The team achieves this providing: Financial advice to the Chief Finance Officer and Senior Officials on Cabinet and Ministerial submissions - in the context of the individual submission and the department's overall financial position. Critical financial support to major capability/budget activities including the biennial National Defence Strategy. Improved outcomes by shaping and advising on departmental financial acquisition policy and processes. Subject matter expertise to build broader Defence Finance Group capability knowledge. Broad stakeholder engagement across the department and central agencies.
