About the Role The role of the Policy & External Engagement Director is to turn the policy platform of the AMPLIFY community into real world policy outcomes. They will lead all policy driven advocacy work across the organisation, working with governments and representatives across Australia, stakeholders and the community to drive change. This newly created role will form part of our leadership team. The Policy & External Engagement Director will lead cross-functional teams to deliver impact and will champion advocacy across the organisation – growing capability and building out the team over time. This role can be based in Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne. Regular travel to Sydney will be required. Key Responsibilities Policy Leadership: Shape and lead policy positions grounded in community insight and research. Ensure consistency, credibility, and alignment across all channels.Campaign Strategy: Design issue-based campaigns grounded in evidence, community input, and policy priorities. Set clear goals, audiences, messages, and success metrics.Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead and coordinate a team that spans policy, communications, engagement, and research—ensuring alignment across functions and impact at scale.Stakeholder & Community Engagement: Build trusted relationships with government, media, civil society, and our national community. Champion inclusive engagement and amplify diverse voices.Impact & Evaluation: Monitor performance, track impact, and share learnings with our board, funders, and community. What You Bring EssentialSignificant experience leading successful advocacy and engagement efforts that have influenced public opinion, policy, government or community behaviour.Strong leadership and influencing skillsStrong project management and communication skills.Ability to engage and mobilise diverse stakeholders.Deep commitment to social change.DesirableUnderstanding of the Australian political/policy landscape.Experience in brand building and skills in digital mobilisation, social or traditional media advocacy. Bonus PointsBackground in political strategy, policy communications, or reform campaigning.Experience with brand building, digital advocacy, and crafting communications and media strategies.
