Agency Purpose The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs. The Team The Silent Elector Processing Cell is a team within the Roll, Service and Foundations Branch. This section is responsible for the day-to-day management of all enrolment-based activities for silent electors, who are those who have their address suppressed on the publicly available electoral roll for safety reasons. The Silent Elector Processing Cell has sites in two locations, one in Canberra co-located with National Office, and one in Adelaide co-located with the South Australian State Office. The Opportunity The Senior Processing Officer is responsible for undertaking enrolment processing that is moderately complex in nature, under general direction of the APS4 Project Officer, against established priorities and procedures. This position is also responsible for the provision of support and advice to internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Processing Officer also contributes to key election delivery activities including Close of Rolls, Postal Voting and Roll Integrity activities. To excel you’ll have: Demonstrated the ability to undertake moderately complex technical tasks and activities using multiple systems, whilst maintaining rigorous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. Proven the ability to effectively communicate and engage with a diverse range of electors, with a focus on confidentiality and excellence in customer service. Demonstrated the ability to research, interpret and apply policies and procedures into decision-making processes. Proven the ability to contribute innovative ideas and identify opportunities for business improvement and efficiencies. Demonstrated personal resilience, integrity and management of sensitive information whilst achieving results within legislative, program and policy parameters. Desirable Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice. Computer literacy with experience using Microsoft Office Suite and other computer software; any Microsoft Excel proficiency will be highly regarded.
