This specialised area of the business is responsible for finishing and refining cast metal parts, using problem-solving skills, teamwork and exceptional hand skills. A problem-solving mindset – you think critically, troubleshoot issues on the fly, and look for smarter, more efficient ways to get the job done. Confidence in using hand tools, grinders, and other finishing equipment, or the willingness and drive to quickly learn. The ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks, while also supporting your team. A proactive attitude – you don’t wait to be told, you step up and take initiative. Ability to mentor others, communicate clearly, and lead by example. Are proactive, process-focused, and always looking for ways to improve. Understand production pressure and how to maintain safe, high-quality work under it. Ability to read and interpret documents including, but not limited to safety rules, standard operating procedures and operating instructions. About the roles: The Aftercast area is where cast components are refined, shaped, and finished to exacting aerospace and defence standards using grinding, linishing, blasting, and other precision finishing techniques. You’ll be part of the team that gives shape and final form to metal components destined for aerospace and Defence applications worldwide, at the only company in Australia capable of casting in titanium. In this role you will: Use your trade skills and mechanical experience to grind, linish, sandblast, and finish precision metal castings. Take ownership of your work area, ensuring parts meet strict aerospace and defence quality standards. Work with a variety of metals including titanium, steel, aluminium, and high-performance alloys used in aerospace and defence applications. Operate a variety of hand tools and finishing equipment with care and precision. Conduct quality inspections of finished parts, ensuring compliance with aerospace and defence specifications. Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other departments to ensure smooth production flow. Use Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to help manage workflow and production accuracy. Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity in a noisy, dusty, and physically demanding environment.
