Automation Engineer (Contract – 6 Months) We’re partnering with a leading Australian brand as they undergo a major uplift in engineering maturity. They’re shifting away from traditional QA approaches and looking to embed Automation Engineers into their platform squads – moving toward custom-built tooling, in-house automation frameworks, and a “shift-left” mindset that values quality ownership across the SDLC. This isn’t your typical QA gig. You’ll be working with a modern internal platform, integrating automation and AI capabilities into the dev process, and helping build out the next generation of tools to reduce reliance on Postman, Playwright, and other off-the-shelf solutions. What you’ll be doing Contributing to the build and scale of a bespoke internal engineering platform Automating workflows, testing, and deployment processes Writing custom scripts and automation tools to streamline testing and integration Working closely with Engineers, Product, and Platform squads to embed quality earlier in the pipeline Supporting the shift from legacy QA into modern automation-first engineering What we’re looking for A background in Software Engineering or Test Automation (SDET-style mindset) Strong scripting and automation skills – ideally C#, Python, or similar Experience contributing to internal platforms or custom-built automation frameworks Familiarity with CI/CD tooling, cloud platforms, and integration pipelines Not reliant on tooling like Postman or Playwright – you know when to build your own Nice to have AI integration experience or interest in automation using LLMs Familiarity with developer experience and platform engineering principles Experience working in retail, eCommerce, or large-scale systems environments Why this role? This is a chance to be part of a wider tech uplift – moving away from ClickOps and old-school QA. You'll work alongside a forward-thinking team including technical leads and platform engineers, with the opportunity to make a real impact as the company invests in modern engineering practices.
