Indigeco is supporting a Federal Government agency in sourcing a skilled and driven EL1 Policy Officer (Regulatory) to join a high-impact team focused on regulatory best practice and water compliance in the Murray-Darling Basin. ABOUT THE ROLE: This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the integrity and transparency of water management in Australia. As an EL1 Policy Officer within the Regulatory Best Practice team, you’ll provide strategic advice and contribute to developing and implementing regulatory frameworks, legislative reforms, and intergovernmental policy reviews. You will play a key role in advising on regulatory matters, preparing high-level submissions and reports, and supporting the broader team through capacity building and policy development initiatives. This position is full-time and offered on a 6-month non-ongoing contract. Only Australian Citizens with valid Baseline clearance or higher are eligible to apply for this role. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead and contribute to complex policy analysis and submissions related to the agency’s regulatory powers and functions Provide policy advice on legislative reforms and the use of regulatory guidelines and standards Coordinate intergovernmental engagements on sensitive or complex issues Support cross-team initiatives by promoting consistency in regulatory practice Develop clear, evidence-based briefs, discussion papers, and performance reports for executive audiences Mentor junior staff and contribute to a high-performing and positive team environment Present findings in workshops and briefings to the Inspector-General and senior stakeholders KEY REQUIREMENTS: Strong experience in regulatory policy, public administration, or legislative reform Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret policy, legal, or regulatory frameworks Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor complex information for different audiences Proven track record of working collaboratively across government or intergovernmental environments Relevant tertiary qualifications are required; postgraduate qualifications in law, environmental science, or humanities are highly regarded Experience in regulatory impact analysis, compliance frameworks, or intergovernmental relations is desirable Apply today if this sounds like an interesting opportunity.
