The Head of External Reporting is responsible for ensuring that Xero’s financial information is of the highest standard and prepared in a timely manner. The incumbent will lead a team of accountants, oversee Xero’s technical accounting, group financial statements, and audit processes. They will enjoy implementing new processes or ways of working that create efficiencies and will have a keen eye for detail. Reporting to the GM External Reporting, this role will build strong cross-functional relationships and become a trusted advisor to the business in reporting and compliance. What you'll do Develop and manage Xero’s financial reporting to respond to changes in the Group and its operating environment, ensuring rigorous processes with appropriate controls. Draft audit and risk committee papers related to key accounting judgements. Manage the half-year, year-end, and foreign subsidiary financial statement processes, including project management across the wider accounting team to ensure accurate disclosures. Ensure documents meet evolving compliance requirements, conform to high standards of accuracy and quality, and are produced within tight timeframes. Manage the audit process and act as the primary liaison with external auditors for review and audit processes. Manage a team of accountants responsible for Xero’s technical accounting areas, including oversight of hedge accounting, software capitalization, revenue recognition, leases, and goodwill impairment testing through month-end activities. Maintain a robust control environment, including regular reporting to internal assurance and the audit committee. Have a strong understanding of IFRS, owning technical accounting areas, providing analysis, memos, and risk assessments. Drive initiative, change, and continuous improvement across the team and wider function. Participate in significant corporate or finance projects as directed by senior leadership. What you'll bring with you 10 years’ experience in finance roles, in a large corporate or Big 4 accounting firm. Strong understanding of accounting principles, standards, and processes. Appropriate qualification, such as CA or equivalent. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables. Strong planning, organizational, and self-management skills. A collaborative team player contributing to a high-performing team. Exceptional communication and presentation skills in various settings.
