Our client – an award-winning global business with an awesome brand is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to take full ownership of their payroll function, managing a small team and assist with a new payroll system implementation / possibly outsource. They are in the very early stages of deciding on the direction of the payroll department so this is a unique opportunity to join at the start of this exciting project and offer input into the decision making. Top Bens Include: 6-12 month initial contract with a high chance of extending A highly attractive, employee-centric benefits suite designed to support long-term wellbeing and work-life balance True flexibility with 2 days WFH from home flexible hours, so perfect for school runs and other activities Rare opportunity to assist in a high profile new systems integration / outsourcing project Volunteer leave days and mental health & wellbeing programs Free parking but also accessible via public transport NUTS & BOLTS: Help with the implementation of a new payroll system or fully outsource to a third party provider over a 6-12 month period Oversee the accurate and timely processing of weekly and monthly payroll cycles for a diverse workforce, including office-based and field/operational teams, while ensuring full adherence to Australian employment laws, Modern Awards, Enterprise Bargaining Agreements, and all statutory requirements Take end-to-end responsibility for payroll platforms and related tools (including established HRIS and time-capture systems), maintaining robust controls, data integrity, and system performance Coordinate and manage international payroll arrangements delivered via external specialist providers Lead and mentor a compact payroll team, setting clear expectations, delivering coaching, performance guidance, and fostering a high-performing, supportive culture Collaborate closely with HR (People & Culture), Finance, and senior stakeholders to support seamless employee journey processes, payroll-impacting changes, and business projects Handle all payroll compliance, reporting, reconciliations, and end-of-year obligations – including Single Touch Payroll (STP), superannuation guarantee contributions, state payroll tax, payment summaries, and audit readiness Proactively identify opportunities to streamline workflows, enhance accuracy, boost scalability, and strengthen risk mitigation through smarter processes and automation YOU’LL NEED: Experience with a lease one full payroll systems implementation Proven track record leading full-cycle payroll operations in a sophisticated, award/enterprise agreement-covered setting (multi-state or multi-entity experience highly regarded) In-depth expertise in Australian payroll compliance, including Fair Work legislation, award interpretation, superannuation rules, payroll tax, and STP obligation Hands-on experience managing payroll teams Strong familiarity with Australian payroll platforms (experience with Chris21, ADP, Dayforce or similar legacy/comprehensive systems is a distinct advantage), plus comfort integrating with time & attendance and HRIS tools A calm, approachable communication style – able to clearly explain complex payroll topics to non-experts while maintaining professionalism under pressure Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical judgement, and proven ability to juggle priorities in a fast-paced environment A genuine team-player mindset with the confidence to build effective partnerships across HR, Finance, and operational leader *full JD available upon application To hear about all the other opportunities Absolute Payroll currently has, to refer a friend or just to have a chat about your career, you can contact Peter Allan at peter@absolutepayroll.com.au | 0451224985 :)
