About the Business Catalyst Metals owns and operates the Plutonic Gold Mine in the Eastern Gascoyne region of Western Australia. The Plutonic Gold Mine produces 85koz of gold annually. The Role We are seeking a highly experienced Underground Safety & Training Specialist with a strong operational underground mining background and a Certificate IV in Training & Assessing. This position is critical to ensuring workforce capability, compliance, and safety performance across underground operations. Reporting to the OHSET Manager, you will take ownership of all training systems and competency frameworks, ensuring all personnel are trained, assessed, and verified as competent to safely perform their roles in a dynamic underground environment. This role requires a hands-on operator who is confident working underground, coaching at the face, and embedding practical, high-impact training outcomes Key responsibilities Deliver, assess and validate training in accordance with Certificate IV standards and site requirements Develop, implement and maintain training packages, VOCs and competency frameworks specific to underground mining Provide on-the-job coaching and mentoring to underground crews to drive safe behaviours and procedural compliance Conduct regular underground inspections, safety interactions and incident investigations Ensure statutory and site training compliance is consistently achieved and recorded Support the continuous improvement of safety systems, SOPs and training materials Assist with emergency preparedness, including training delivery, drills and debrief facilitation About you Certificate IV in Training and Assessing – essential Extensive, hands-on experience in underground metalliferous mining (gold highly regarded) Demonstrated ability to train, assess and mentor personnel in a production underground environment Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage operators, supervisors and contractors Self-driven with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities Practical, field-based approach to safety leadership and hazard management Strong written and verbal communication skills, including training documentation and reporting Highly regarded qualifications & experience Advanced First Aid or Certificate IV in Health Care / Pre‑hospital Care (or equivalent).
