The Role - What You’ll Do You will create expressive, polished animations for characters, props, and interactive gameplay sequences designed specifically for an immersive VR environment. Working closely with artists, designers, and developers, you will help implement and optimize animation workflows directly within Unity. You will ensure that movement and performances perfectly align with the project’s creative vision while respecting strict real-time VR performance limits. Additionally, if you have the skills, you will jump in to assist with building or modifying character and prop rigs to keep production running seamlessly. What You Bring - Key Skills & Traits Essential Proven experience as a 3D Animator within games, VR, interactive media, or real-time production A strong, practical understanding of animation principles (timing, weight, and character performance) Direct experience creating and implementing animations inside Unity The ability to problem-solve and work within the technical constraints and optimization requirements of VR Clear communication skills and the self-motivation to thrive independently in a remote freelance capacity Desirable Hands-on character or prop rigging experience (a massive advantage!) Knowledge of animation state machines and in-engine implementation workflows Familiarity with motion capture cleanup and retargeting workflows Experience with software like Maya, Blender, MotionBuilder, or rigging systems (e.g., Advanced Skeleton) An understanding of player comfort and movement constraints specific to VR platforms Perks & Culture Ultimate flexibility: Work fully remote from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
