What You’ll Do The Industrial Designer is responsible for planning, designing, developing, and documenting industrial and commercial products that integrate functional, aesthetic, ergonomic, and manufacturing requirements. Within Bureau, this role is responsible for originating and leading concept-driven industrial design work across modular workspace systems, translating ideas into commercially viable, manufacturable outcomes. The position contributes directly to product direction, brand differentiation, and market-facing design outcomes within a competitive global environment. Key Responsibilities Design Planning & Concept Development Determine project objectives, user requirements, and commercial constraints across modular furniture systems and workspace environments Lead the development of original design concepts from initial brief through to defined design direction Translate conceptual ideas into structured, buildable product outcomes Product Design & Development Lead the design and development of industrial and commercial products that integrate functional performance, ergonomics, and spatial considerations Deliver innovative modular office solutions and product systems aligned with Bureau’s design direction Ensure design outcomes meet both aesthetic and operational requirements Research & Design Integration Conduct research into functional, commercial, cultural, and aesthetic requirements Analyse user behaviour, workplace environments, and product application to inform design decisions Integrate insights into product and system-level design solutions Visual Communication Prepare and present sketches, CAD models, renderings, and visual assets to communicate design intent Develop presentation-ready materials for internal stakeholders and external clients Clearly articulate design concepts from ideation through to execution Materials & Production Specification Select and specify appropriate materials, finishes, and production methods Apply knowledge of metals, composites, plastics, and fabrication techniques Balance design direction with production feasibility, cost, and scalability Documentation & Production Development Produce detailed design documentation, technical drawings, and specifications for manufacture Ensure accuracy and completeness of design outputs for batch or mass production Maintain alignment between design intent and production execution Prototype Development Oversee the development of prototypes and mock-ups to validate design concepts Assess usability, performance, and manufacturability through iterative testing Refine designs to meet quality and production standards Project Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with internal teams including product, sales, and leadership Provide clear design direction to engineering and manufacturing partners Present design proposals, progress updates, and outcomes to stakeholders Design Translation & Commercial Application Ensure seamless translation of concept designs into commercially viable products Align design outcomes with market positioning and brand objectives Contribute to design outcomes that support customer engagement, product adoption, and revenue-generating initiatives Skills & Experience Proven ability to design and develop industrial and commercial products from concept through to production Demonstrated ability to originate design concepts from a blank brief and translate them into production-ready outcomes Strong capability in both conceptual ideation and technical execution Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Rhino, AutoCAD or similar) Proficiency in rendering and visualisation tools (KeyShot, Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent) Strong sketching and visual communication skills with the ability to rapidly convey ideas In-depth understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and production methods Ability to integrate functional, aesthetic, and commercial considerations into design solutions Strong collaboration and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Design or Product Design Minimum 4 years of relevant full-time experience in industrial or product design, including end-to-end product development Preferred: Master’s degree in Integrated Product Design or Service System Design Multilingual capability preferred, particularly where supporting global collaboration and communication Role Contribution This role supports Bureau’s ability to design and deliver workspace solutions that are both functional and visually distinctive within a competitive global market.
