Your responsibilities will include leading and coordinating financial accounting processes and policies for the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (LGWV). The Role You will support the Chief Finance Officer in achieving the objectives under the Financial Accountability Act 2009. You will lead and coordinate financial accounting processes and policies for the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (LGWV). You will lead the preparation of the department's financial statements, oversee the asset management framework and lead the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures and practices that facilitate and support financial management within LGWV. Key Accountabilities Lead the department's asset management framework by providing expert advice on asset accounting which includes major Property, Plant and Equipment and Infrastructure, recording and valuation policies, preparation of the annual stocktake management reports, procedures and systems which contribute to enhanced asset management and satisfy financial reporting requirements Provide strong leadership and management in the areas of finance, risk and corporate governance to ensure a client-centric and solutions-oriented culture focused on continuous improvement, innovation and knowledge sharing. Lead the development and review of policies, plans, strategies and procedures including the development and maintenance of an up-to-date Financial Management Practice Manual to ensure there is continuous improvement of the financial management of the department Lead the timely end of accounting period closure processing, including reconciliations and accruals, to enable the timely development of the monthly financial reports to the leadership team and the annual financial statements Oversee the integrity of the department's financial accounting records and systems, ensuring that they are maintained in accordance with accounting standards, legislative and departmental requirements Develop and implement strategic approaches and solutions to complex accounting and financial management issues to achieve organisation objectives About You There are no mandatory requirements for this role however, a tertiary qualification in Commerce, Business, Accounting or similar or membership of the CAANZ, CPA Australia or other similar professional body is highly regarded.
