Cloud Architect - API Gateway Platform (AWS) Location: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide or Canberra Type: Contract / Full-time (flexible) About the Role We are seeking an experienced Cloud Architect to lead the design and evolution of a large-scale, enterprise API gateway platform. This role sits at the intersection of strategy and hands-on delivery-ideal for someone who can shape architecture while remaining close to implementation details. You will play a key role in designing a modern API platform that supports high-volume, mission-critical services, ensuring scalability, security, and developer productivity. Key Responsibilities Lead the end-to-end design of the target-state API gateway platform. Define logical architecture, including request flows covering authentication, authorisation, throttling, caching, and routing. Assess existing APIs and design patterns for onboarding them onto the platform, including identifying any required code changes or refactoring. Work with API owners to understand current API implementations (primarily TypeScript and C# .NET) and determine the appropriate onboarding approach for each. Create reusable infrastructure-as-code patterns (CloudFormation / CDK). Design CI/CD pipeline templates and governance automation (linting, quality gates, compliance checks). Skills and Experience required: Deep AWS architecture experience, particularly with API Gateway (authorisers, throttling, caching, usage plans). Proven track record designing enterprise-scale API platforms . Strong hands-on API development background (REST) with experience in production systems. Working proficiency in TypeScript and/or C# .NET . Expertise in AWS IAM, CloudFormation/CDK , and infrastructure-as-code principles. Experience across AWS services including Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3, DynamoDB, CloudWatch . Strong CI/CD design experience supporting multi-environment deployments and release strategies. Ability to produce high-quality architecture artefacts suitable for formal review and governance.
