About your new role The Librarian supervises and supports a team delivering high-quality, inclusive, and engaging experiences across our library service. With a strong focus on customer service, you will help create welcoming, accessible, and community-focused library spaces. You will lead day-to-day operations, support library programs and corporate initiatives, and drive consistent service excellence. This includes guiding staff development, fostering a positive team culture, and ensuring high standards of customer engagement. You’ll also support customers to access physical and digital collections, assist with library technologies and equipment, and apply sound judgement when managing escalated issues. A commitment to safety, adaptability, and continuous improvement is essential. This role also requires the physical capacity to undertake regular shelving and movement of library materials, along with extended periods working on the library floor. Tasks include bending, reaching, lifting, and standing for prolonged periods. Flexibility is an important requirement, including the ability to work across the wider Library Service as needed. Our library network spans multiple locations, including Southport, Broadbeach, Nerang, Helensvale, Runaway Bay, Ormeau, Upper Coomera, Burleigh Heads, Burleigh Waters, Coolangatta, Elanora, and Robina. About you You are an experienced library professional with strong leadership skills and a genuine passion for customer service. You are confident supervising teams, supporting staff development, and fostering a positive, high-performing team culture. You remain calm under pressure and use sound judgement when managing complex situations. Adaptable and solutions-focused, you embrace change and are committed to continuous learning. You are confident supporting customers with library technologies and digital resources and enjoy working collaboratively to enhance the customer experience.
