Unlike traditional suburban supermarkets, we specialise in gourmet, specialty, and niche products, including vegan, gluten-free, keto, and paleo ranges, with a strong focus on sourcing from local and regional Australian suppliers. Our primary customer base consists of university students, academic staff, and administrative personnel, driving consistently high demand for convenient, ready-to-eat meal options. Trading seven days a week with an annual turnover exceeding $6 million, we employ approximately 37 staff across grocery, produce, deli, bakery, and customer service departments. As we continue to experience strong growth, we are seeking a dedicated HR professional to join our leadership team. The Opportunity This is a genuine, ongoing, and essential new role created due to the complexities of our workforce environment and business growth. The Human Resource Advisor will be responsible for implementing structured HR strategies, ensuring compliance with Australian employment law, and driving employee engagement and retention. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and strategies aligned with legal requirements and company objectives. Manage end-to-end recruitment, including job design, advertising, interviewing, and onboarding. Provide expert advice to management and staff on the Fair Work Act, General Retail Industry Award 2020, workplace relations, and performance management. Oversee employee relations, including conflict resolution, disciplinary procedures, and grievance handling. Implement workforce planning to manage fluctuating staff availability due to university academic calendars (exams, semesters, holidays). Maintain HR records, payroll support, and compliance reporting. Lead employee development, training, performance appraisals, and succession planning. Promote workplace health and safety (WHS) compliance. Develop initiatives to enhance workplace culture, engagement, and retention. About You To succeed in this role, you will have a blend of retail HR experience and employment law knowledge, with the ability to adapt quickly to our unique campus-based supermarket environment. Essential Criteria: Minimum 1-2 years of generalist HR experience, ideally within the retail or fast-paced service industry. Strong working knowledge of the Fair Work Act 2009 and the General Retail Industry Award 2020. Demonstrated experience managing employee relations, including disciplinary processes and conflict resolution. Proven ability to manage recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning. Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills (our team includes international students, working holiday makers, and local residents). Ability to work full-time on-site at our UWA Crawley campus location. Desirable Criteria: Formal qualification (e.g., Certificate IV, Diploma, or Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field).
