Our Perth General Insurance team sits within our national General Insurance section, with around 190 team members nationally. We provide general insurance advice to insurers, reinsurers and corporates, and we sit on the legal panels of three of Australia’s top four general insurers. The primary focus of this role will be advising on the defence of general liability claims in the casualty, casualty, property damage and product liability space. Our team regularly appears in the District Court and Supreme Court of WA. This is a fantastic hands-on role with significant development and progression opportunities as well as the opportunity to work with interesting clients, including some of Australia's top insurers. You will be responsible for: reviewing documents and the preparation of evidence; drafting correspondence to the Court and third parties; conferencing with witnesses and preparing witness statements; preparing briefs for Counsel; drafting Court documents and attendance at Court; drafting client advices; drafting letters of instruction to experts; and supervising and mentoring junior lawyers and other members of the team. About you You will ideally have the following skills and experience: a minimum of 4 years of post-admission experience (PAE) advising on defendant insurance matters, ideally in personal injury and general liability; we will also consider candidates from a plaintiff background who are interested in transitioning to defendant work; experience in the day-to-day management of files, and in running matters through court proceedings; proactive and able to work autonomously and as part of a team; excellent technical, analytical and drafting skills with a keen attention to detail; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to organise and prioritise effectively.
