The Head of Operational and Delivery Performance for Australia & New Zealand serves as the regional operational representative of Global PP&A, ensuring independent oversight, strong governance, data-driven performance analysis, and delivery assurance across all projects. Beyond these duties, the position offers strategic leadership over a wide-ranging and influential portfolio covering the entire ANZ delivery landscape. The role reports directly to the Managing Director for ANZ. You will oversee the full portfolio of projects across Australia and New Zealand—balancing priorities, capability, resources, and delivery risks across concurrent programs—and, when required, directly project manage selected projects. You will also support strategic bids and tenders by leading project management activities in partnership with Sales, Bids, and Business Development teams, ensuring alignment between delivery capability and market growth opportunities. The role leads the Planning & Scheduling function across ANZ leading the Project Office, ensuring consistency in tools, methodologies, baseline management, scenario planning, forecasting accuracy, and reporting quality. You will own the regional resource planning framework, managing workforce capacity, workload balancing, and deployment of appropriately skilled resources in collaboration with Engineering, Project Management, HR, and country leadership. A critical component of the role is driving innovation, digitalisation, and special projects to uplift delivery efficiency and support organisational transformation. You will also lead competency management across the ANZ project workforce, including skills mapping, capability development, maturity assessment, coaching, professional progression, and alignment with Hitachi Rail’s global job families and PP&A frameworks. This is a far reaching, high intensity, and fast paced leadership role that touches every dimension of the project lifecycle. It demands strategic thinking, resilience, cross functional collaboration, and the ability to lead teams through complex challenges while unlocking meaningful opportunities for continuous improvement and organisational excellence. Strong experience in complex engineering or infrastructure project environments. Proficiency with project management systems (Primavera, MS Project, SAP, Power BI, portfolio tools). Demonstrated capability in team leadership, assurance, and performance oversight Able to work within a team and adopt a proactive problem-solving approach Rail, transportation, or engineering industry experience. Professional certifications (PMP, PRINCE2, AIPM, PMI SP, etc.). Experience in global matrix organisations. Familiarity with Hitachi Rail methodologies and governance frameworks Additional Information Some travel required across Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
