Located at the RMC Gunn Building (B19) on the Camperdown Campus Provide technical support to the Faculty of Science to achieve research and educational outcomes Base Salary HEO8 $121,508 - $137,032 17% superannuation About the opportunity The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a motivated Senior Technical Officer- Animal Bioscience Precinct to join the team and provide research-focused support to the School of Life and Environmental Science (SOLES) and to the School of Veterinary Science as part of the Central Operations Services, Technical Support Services team. Reporting to a Technical Service Manager, the Senior Technical Officer leads and supervises a team in delivering high-quality technical services within their area of responsibility, supporting excellence in teaching and research outcomes. The role is responsible for coordinating day-to-day technical operations, including support for research and some teaching activities. This includes overseeing purchasing and supply management, ensuring timely service delivery, and providing expert technical advice. The Senior Technical Officer also ensures that facilities and equipment are maintained to a high standard, and that all relevant documentation and records are accurate, up to date, and compliant with organisational requirements. Your key responsibilities will be to : provide effective day-to-day leadership, management, delegation, coordination, guidance, and support to direct reports, including effective division of workload between staff collaborate with other Senior Technical Officers, to identify and act upon opportunities to knowledge-share and develop consistent workflows where possible, while ensuring that research and teaching priorities are managed effectively across the precinct resolve service gaps and issues with relevant stakeholders, negotiating as appropriate, escalating to your Manager as required and facilitating use of formal escalation pathways, as necessary identify and act on opportunities for efficient utilisation and deployment of resources to support the delivery of research, ensuring optimal allocation of resources such as space, equipment and information technology provide support in the timely completion, review, and implementation of risk assessments, safe work procedures and WHS records, ensuring that procedures are duly documented and are available to all who may use them support procurement activities for physical resources and services required to maintain operational efficiency and service performance targets, including scoping specifications, user acceptance testing, service contracts and preparation of appropriate end-user training material. About you a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science or in a relevant field experience in managing veterinary or biological science laboratories or equivalent, and in at least 2 of the following areas: Clinical skills, Veterinary anatomy, Microbiology, Parasitology, Zoology, Botany experience of optimising protocols and an ability to apply and contribute to the development, maintenance, and review of standard technical documentation and operating procedures laboratory management experience, including implementing practices/procedures to improve compliance (e.g., work health and safety) and operational efficacies experience in defining, delivering and working with staff affected by organisational change to promote engagement, support for change and acting as a champion for benefits and delivery of the required change outcomes staff training, development, and management: demonstrated experience in the supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff; and experience managing and resolving a diverse range of HR issues sound working knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g. OGTR/PC2) and operating procedures within the laboratory environment, including relevant experience in the safe handling/storage/disposal of biological waste and hazardous substances (e.g., chemical waste, compressed gases, and cryogens).
