Description Create your best future and join Westpac as a Principal Experience Designer Location: Sydney-based role only On-site Requirement: 2 days in the office per week Why On-site? This is a highly collaborative position involving regular face-to-face workshops and close team interaction, making in-office presence essential. What’s the role? As a Principal Experience Designer, you will play a key leadership role within Westpac’s Business & Wealth design practice, working across Business Transaction Banking (BTB). This is a strategic and hands-on position where you will shape experience direction across complex initiatives, confidently partner with senior stakeholders, and uplift design quality through strong craft leadership, coaching, and mentorship. You will lead design across multiple streams of work, providing clear direction to a pod of designers while helping teams move at pace without compromising experience quality. Additionally, you’ll influence strategy and roadmaps, guide experience delivery from discovery through to launch, and balance speed with high-quality outcomes. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, and Business leaders to deliver meaningful customer and business impact, while shaping how teams work by improving workflows, collaboration, and consistency across squads. Research and testing will be used to validate direction and strengthen decision-making across initiatives. You will also model modern design practice by using AI responsibly to improve speed and quality. While you don’t need to be an AI specialist, you are expected to be curious, practical, and committed to learning, applying sound judgement, empathy, and craft, and uplifting others along the way. What do I need? Significant experience working across experience design in complex digital environments (enterprise and/or financial services preferred). Strong craft leadership with the ability to mentor, coach, and uplift designers while setting clear standards and expectations. Experience using AI within design workflows to support synthesis, exploration, decision‑making, and efficiency will be a nice‑to‑have skill. Confidence influencing senior stakeholders and partnering effectively across Product, Engineering, and Business in ambiguous environments. Ability to work across multiple streams of work, balancing speed, quality, and outcomes. A collaborative, calm leadership style with high ownership, accountability, and a bias for action.
