A well-established healthcare services organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their finance team on a 6-month maternity leave contract. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is responsible for overseeing key financial operations, ensuring compliance with Australian financial regulations, and delivering accurate financial reporting to support organisational decision-making. The Role As the Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in managing day-to-day financial operations and supporting the leadership team with financial insights. Key responsibilities include: Financial Operations & Payroll Manage payroll processing ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions including reconciliations Manage payment runs and staff reimbursements Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare monthly financial statements including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reports Complete balance sheet reconciliations and assist with weekly cash flow forecasting Analyse financial performance and provide insights to the CFO Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards Compliance & Statutory Reporting Prepare BAS, IAS, payroll tax and other statutory returns Ensure compliance with GST, PAYG and FBT obligations Support external audits and liaise with external advisors Budgeting & Forecasting Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes Monitor performance against budgets and provide variance analysis Support operational leaders with budget management Government Funding & Billing Assist with reporting and invoice uploads through government funding portals Review and resolve billing issues relating to Medicare and government-funded programs Reconcile debtor accounts and support debt management Systems & Process Improvement Maintain and improve financial systems and processes Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost savings Support system upgrades or accounting software improvements About You You are a technically strong accounting professional who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment and partnering with stakeholders across the organisation. Essential Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or related field CA or CPA qualified Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar accounting role Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and tax compliance Experience with accounting software such as Xero or MYOB Advanced Microsoft Excel skills High attention to detail and strong analytical skills Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capability Desirable Experience within healthcare, NFP or government-funded environments Exposure to Medicare or government funding reporting Experience improving finance systems and processes The Opportunity This role offers the chance to step into a key finance position within a purpose-driven organisation delivering essential healthcare services.
