Commercial Manager – Defence Projects Location: Melbourne, Victoria Contract: 6 months Security Clearance: NV1 (or ability to obtain) About the Role We are seeking a skilled Commercial Manager to support the delivery of key Defence projects. In this role, you will manage procurement and contracting activities, provide commercial advice, and ensure contracts are executed efficiently and in line with regulatory and policy frameworks. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to optimise value-for-money outcomes, mitigate risk, and support capability delivery. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement procurement methodologies and contracting options, prioritising cost efficiency, risk mitigation, and collaborative engagement with industry. Prepare and manage tender documentation, lead tendering activities, and provide guidance on procurement strategies. Provide evaluation support, including developing tender evaluation criteria, methodologies, and reports. Facilitate contractual risk workshops and advise on allocation and management of liability. Develop and maintain contract management systems or processes to monitor communications, contract performance, financials, variations, and claims. Ensure all commercial activities comply with legislative, policy, and regulatory requirements, including Defence standards. Collaborate effectively with stakeholders, providing expert advice and building strong business relationships. Essential Skills & Experience Tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience. Extensive experience in procurement methodology, contract design, and management with both Government and private organisations. Understanding of Defence Procurement Policy Manual (DPPM), Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPR), and ASDEFCON templates. Proven experience delivering Defence projects, including complex, logistically challenging initiatives. Strong commercial judgement and ability to analyse, plan, and manage procurement activities across the lifecycle of a project. Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and relationship-building skills. Highly Desirable Skills & Experience Experience in liability risk analysis and contract management within Government or Defence contexts. Experience in Land or Joint C4 environments, integrated platform solutions, or engineering projects. Understanding of ODCS and FIC frameworks. Existing or eligibility for NV1 Security Clearance. Experience collaborating with Defence Prime contractors on deliverables-based contracts.
