About the Position As the IT Security Specialist, you will play a key role in protecting the City’s information assets and strengthening our cyber security capability. You will lead the development and implementation of cyber security policies, standards and controls, ensuring alignment with recognised frameworks and best practice. This is a hands-on role where you will monitor and respond to cyber threats, manage security incidents, conduct risk and vulnerability assessments, and oversee key security tools and controls. You will also coordinate cyber-related audits, maintain the City’s Information Security Action Plan, and work closely with internal teams to embed security into everyday operations. You will be a trusted advisor, providing practical guidance, promoting cyber awareness, and helping build a strong, security-first culture across the organisation. About You You are an experienced IT security professional with a practical, hands-on approach to managing cyber risk in a complex environment. You have a proven ability to identify vulnerabilities, respond to security incidents and implement controls that genuinely strengthen an organisation’s security posture. You bring strong technical capability across cyber security tools and practices, including SIEM solutions (Microsoft Sentinel preferred), vulnerability assessment, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, identity and access management and application security. You are comfortable working independently, designing secure systems and providing clear, risk-based advice to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Just as importantly, you are a collaborative communicator who enjoys building strong relationships and promoting a security-first culture through education, guidance and support. You adapt well to change, contribute positively to a high-performing team, and are willing to participate in an on-call or out-of-hours roster when required.
