Schools Ministry Group (SMG) SMG provides ongoing pastoral and practical support through chaplaincy, Christian education, and wellbeing services to school communities in collaboration with the Christian community and other organisations. As the employer of over 270 Pastoral Care Workers (PCWs) in South Australian government schools, SMG is an approved Chaplaincy Service provider under the National Student Wellbeing Program (NSWP) by the Department for Education (DfE). The Opportunity PCWs serve as positive role models, offering compassionate support within their assigned schools and communities. With backing from the local Christian community, PCWs help young people and school communities find Purpose, Value, and Hope. Key Responsibilities: Provide social, emotional, and spiritual support to students, staff, and families. Engage with the community, local churches, and external support services. Assist with wellbeing initiatives and personal support. Collaborate with school leadership to ensure student welfare. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines. Qualifications & Experience: Personal commitment to Christian faith and values. Relevant experience in youth work, counselling, or pastoral care is preferred. Strong communication and empathetic listening skills. Ability to work collaboratively across Christian denominations and with diverse beliefs. Minimum Qualifications: The Department for Education requires a PCW employee to have a minimum of a Certificate IV in a relevant field such as Chaplaincy, Youth Work, Mental Health, or Child, Youth, And Family Intervention. Additional qualifications or experience in Education, Counselling, or Community Services may also be considered.
