Position Details Title: STEM Laboratory Technician (Robotics & Science Competitions) Employment Type: [Full-time / Part-time – negotiable] Location: Iqra Islamic College, South Australia Commencement: [ASAP] Reports to: STEM Coordinator Job Description Role Purpose The STEM Laboratory Technician will: Assist students and teachers in preparing for robotics competitions and the Oliphant Science Awards . Support the planning and delivery of robotics and engineering activities. Maintain and manage STEM laboratory equipment and materials. Promote safe, organised, and innovative STEM learning environments. Key Responsibilities 1. Robotics Program Support Assist in the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of robotics kits (e.g., LEGO Robotics, VEX, Arduino, Micro:bit, etc.). Support robotics teams during training sessions and competitions. Provide technical guidance in coding, mechanical assembly, and testing. Maintain inventory of robotics components and tools. 2. Oliphant Science Award Support students preparing entries for the Oliphant Science Awards . Assist with project design, experimentation setup, and data collection. Help ensure projects meet competition criteria and deadlines. Coordinate materials and workspace for competition preparation. Liaise with teachers regarding student progress and requirements. 3. Laboratory Management Maintain a safe and organised STEM laboratory. Ensure equipment is serviced, calibrated, and stored properly. Prepare materials for science experiments and engineering activities. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and risk assessments. 4. Student Mentoring & Support Provide hands-on support to students during practical sessions. Encourage teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving. Model Islamic values including integrity, discipline, and collaboration. Support inclusive participation for both boys and girls in STEM activities. 5. Administrative Duties Maintain records of equipment usage and maintenance. Assist in budgeting and procurement of STEM resources. Support documentation for competition entries and reporting. Selection Criteria Essential: Relevant qualification or experience in STEM, Engineering, IT, Robotics, or Laboratory Technology. Experience working with robotics platforms and coding environments. Strong organisational and technical troubleshooting skills. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students. Commitment to child safety and wellbeing. Valid Working With Children Check (South Australia). Desirable: Experience supporting school-based robotics competitions. Familiarity with the Oliphant Science Awards framework.
