Senior AWS Engineer Canberra or Brisbane Contract Baseline or higher security clearance Excellent Federal Government Client Job details The AWS Cloud Engineer will support the Infrastructure Server Team Leader, focusing on managing and improving the AEC’s AWS Cloud platform, infrastructure, and services. The duties will be primarily focussed on managing components from solutions based in AWS with possible additional tasks in on-premises infrastructure and in Azure. Reporting to the Platform Lead, Hosting Platforms, this role will contribute to the infrastructure team’s mission to deliver positive outcomes for the operational matters relating to the management and support of AEC infrastructure and systems. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to the delivery of electoral events and day-to-day operations through an improved maturity of AEC’s systems. Please note, candidates must hold an active Baseline security clearance prior to commencement. Key duties and responsibilities This role will be responsible for, but not limited to: In partnership with the rest of the infrastructure team/s, provide systems expertise to enhance and improve existing solutions, including designing, developing, implementing, and testing solutions, in line with business requirements and software development standards; Managing the AWS Landing zone, including provisioning of resources and service, optimizing costs, and ensuring security and compliance. Implementing and enforcing platform best practices to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of the AWS environment. Implementing platform security controls to protect AWS resources and data from unauthorised access and cyber threats. Collaborating with architecture and engineering teams to design and implement scalable software services. Collaborating with other teams in the work area, investigating and resolving complex issues with the operation of infrastructure and infrastructure as code; Troubleshooting systems and solving problems across all platform and application domains. Ensuring deadlines are consistently met and that a high standard of technical and design documentation is provided; Defining, developing and documenting the existing automation technologies to enhance the system’s build, test and deployment capabilities Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed from time to time. Essential criteria • Demonstrated extensive experience working within Cloud Infrastructure (Azure and AWS) in hybrid cloud and on-premise environments and experience in virtualization, cloud computing, and storage technologies. • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels and manager key stakeholders. • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in and/or ability to learn various AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, CloudFormation, and Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Route 53, Direct Connect, and VPN and SCP. • Demonstrated experience in implementation and management of security controls within AWS, including Identity and Access management (IAM) policies, security groups, encryption, and key management. • Experience with AWS monitoring and logging tools like CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and AWS Config for ensuring platform health and compliance. • Willingness to learn troubleshooting skills and understand how to optimise AWS resources for performance, cost, and security. • Demonstrated knowledge of risk management principles and processes in context of security patch management and infrastructure management. Desirable criteria • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS Cloud Development Kit to automate infrastructure deployments and management. • Proven understanding of ITIL, TOGAF concepts with a focus on Incident, Problem and Change Management and knowledge of the Commonwealth frameworks, including the PSPF and ISM • Relevant qualifications in AWS. • Understanding of compliance standards and experience implementing governance frameworks within AWS. • Demonstrated experience in the development and maintenance of continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) pipelines. • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in deploying, testing, and maintaining an enterprise sized ICT environment.
