Our client, a national regulatory organisation, seeks an experienced Project Accountant for a 12 month engagement. This role sits within the Finance team and supports a portfolio or program of projects. You will partner closely with Project Managers and senior finance stakeholders to ensure accurate forecasting, reporting and financial governance. Role overview You will provide end to end project accounting support, manage month end activities and contribute to sound financial control across multiple projects. Key responsibilities Project accounting and month end Prepare and post monthly project journals, including accruals, prepayments and cost allocations Ensure accurate and timely capture of project costs in the general ledger and project systems Perform monthly reconciliations and resolve variances Support month end close in line with Finance timetables Forecasting, reporting and analysis Work with Project Managers to develop and maintain monthly forecasts Produce regular financial reports, including actual versus budget and forecast analysis Provide clear variance analysis and commentary Support preparation of Steering Committee reporting packs Respond to project related financial queries and ad hoc analysis Financial governance and controls Support effective control over project expenditure in line with organisational policies and legislation Monitor budgets, funding limits and financial risks, escalating where required Ensure financial information supports audit and governance requirements Continuous improvement and collaboration Identify opportunities to improve processes and reporting quality Work collaboratively with Finance and delivery teams Maintain knowledge of relevant accounting standards and internal frameworks Required experience and skills Sound knowledge of accounting principles with experience in project or management accounting Demonstrated experience preparing journals, reconciliations and financial reports Experience partnering with Project Managers on forecasting Experience using financial management systems such as Oracle, TM1 or similar Ability to manage project level general ledger activity and maintain balance sheet integrity Strong analytical skills and ability to explain financial results to non finance stakeholders Advanced Excel skills Ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines High attention to detail Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills Tertiary qualifications in accounting or related discipline CPA or CA qualification, or working towards This role is ideal for a systems-focused accountant ready to contribute to a key public sector.
