Our team The Data Services Section within the Enterprise Data and Digital branch delivers specialist software, database and cloud-based services that will enables Geoscience Australia to effectively manage its data. The section consults with internal and external research, government, and industry partners to establish collaborative frameworks, products and scientific system architectures and models within Geoscience Australia and across broader national and international communities of practice. The section innovates, builds, and maintains tools, systems, processes, and governance that enable digital data product creation, management, and delivery. The key duties of the position include We are seeking a senior member to serve as the Lead for a team of database developers, responsible for designing, developing, and managing scientific data within our enterprise databases. The Lead Database Developer plays an important role in the team, serving as the primary interface with stakeholders and coordinator for requested technical work. In addition, the Lead provides technical leadership in the development, implementation, and architecture of Geoscience Australia's Relational Database Management Systems. The core capabilities of the role requires proficiency in the use of Oracle Databases, SQL, PL/SQL coding and Oracle Apex, and a willingness to learn other technologies as required. The Lead Database Developer will ensure that databases are well designed, understood and are easily accessible. They will lead their team to undertake database application development projects within an agile environment and to deliver products for stakeholders in a timely manner. The role necessitates clear communication and collaboration with a variety of stakeholders, the ability to apply strong analytical skills, a commitment to achieving quality outcomes, and employing continuous improvement. To be successful in the role you will: Lead the management of staff, coordination of projects, and communication with stakeholders. Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise to support loading, transforming, analysing and accessing data and in writing database code (particularly PL/SQL and SQL). Proactively participate in a positive culture of continuous improvement, agility, security, and user engagement. Providing technical coaching to junior ICT staff on how best to work with Oracle Databases. Develop and manage positive working relationships with Geoscience Australia's technical and scientific specialists. Work closely with clients, stakeholders and peers with a view to understanding requirements and delivering quality outcomes in an agile environment. Apply your expertise with Oracle databases to support best practices around data management and application development. Design and implement Geoscience Australia's databases (largely within Oracle). Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications Demonstrated experience and skills in Oracle database development including the use of SQL and PL/SQL are required in this position. Other relational database experience will be highly regarded. Experience with Oracle Application Express (Apex) and the development of applications to support management of Oracle databases. Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills and the ability to collaborate with a cross-section of an organisation. Experience managing and working with teams of developers, including successful strategies for project and task coordination and management. Understanding of Agile/Lean principals.
