About the role The Commercial Manager plays an integral role in managing and controlling the effective implementation of project commercial framework and processes, including head contract and subcontract administration, commercial risk analysis, insurances, control and reporting to ensure the project’s objectives are achieved. The role ensures strong Commercial governance across infrastructure design and construct (D&C) contracts upstream including client extension of time and variation claims and reviewing client contract terms. The Commercial Manager will build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including project managers, leadership team and UGL customers. Key Responsibilities Pre contract review of proposed customer contract terms to ensure they align with UGL Polices and deliver the best possible commercial advantage to UGL. Lead commercial negotiation of contract terms and conditions with client that optimise and provide necessary protection to manage UGL’s risk across rail infrastructure design and construct projects Reviewing major Subcontract documents to ensure that critical pass though provisions are included to the best possible commercial advantage of UGL. Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships with customers and key suppliers Provide ongoing expert advice within to project teams regarding commercial implications of specific terms and conditions in contracts, coordinating with UGL legal teams as necessary. Provide commercial advice to the project teams to ensure sound contract performance, in particular provide advice on the management, negotiation and resolution of contractual issues and claims. Apply appropriate risk analysis to develop and then implement effective solutions to complex commercial issues relating to projects. Manage, in collaboration with project teams the resolution of contractual issues or disputes that may arise with clients, suppliers or consultants. Manage the overall execution of any major claims – collaborating with Legal on any formal contract dispute. Qualifications A degree in Commerce, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law, Business, Economics or similar 5 years’ experience in senior commercial or contract management roles Demonstrated experience working as a Commercial Manager within a construction or infrastructure environment Strong knowledge of contract drafting, assessment and interpretation Proven ability to manage commercial risk, claims and complex contractual matters About Us UGL is renowned for providing comprehensive engineering, construction, and maintenance services across various sectors, including rail and transport, communications and technology systems, oil and gas, power, renewables, water, and defense.
