Your next career opportunity As an Infrastructure Cloud Engineer , you will play a pivotal role in the operation, maintenance, and development of the University of Melbourne Research Cloud. You will work closely with teams across Research Computing Services and Business Services to ensure integrated service delivery and infrastructure development. Your technical expertise will contribute to improving automation, security, and systems management, ensuring efficient utilisation of resources and effective communication with researchers and stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include: Manage Cloud Operations: Oversee day-to-day tasks within the University of Melbourne Research Cloud, including system upgrades, patches, and monitoring capacity and performance. Enhance Infrastructure Development: Contribute to planning, extending, and improving cloud infrastructure while collaborating with cybersecurity to mitigate security incidents. Develop System Documentation: Create and maintain clear, accurate , and useful documentation for colleagues and users to facilitate effective system management. Deliver Responsive Service: Execute service requests promptly and efficiently, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with researchers and stakeholders. You may be a great fit if: You possess tertiary qualifications in Computer Science or Software Engineering, have strong Linux systems administration skills, and are experienced in cloud computing and virtualisation environments, with a collaborative approach and problem-solving abilities. You may also: Have experience with OpenStack and creating monitoring scripts for Grafana/Graphite. Possess good knowledge of scripting languages such as bash or Python and automation tools like Puppet and Ansible. Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team. Have a strong understanding of networks, including firewalls, subnetting, VLANs, and routing. RCS delivers the digital research infrastructure and services for researchers at The University of Melbourne. RCS operate on- premise High-Performance Computing (HPC), Cloud Computing and General-Purpose Graphical Processing Unit (GPGPU) computational platforms. RCS operate over 20 PB of research data storage to enable data-driven research and collaboration and a range of data management services and provide a range of consultation services to support the development of custom computation and data management solutions. RCS also contributes to the national eResearch infrastructure initiative the ARDC’s Nectar Research Cloud and facilitate access to Australia’s national supercomputer facility NCI.
