The key duties of the position include The Opportunity We are seeking enthusiastic team players with a finance background to join the Finance and Pay Services Branch provide critical functions to support the day to day and future operations of ASIO. You will have a confident and approachable manner with excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport. Use your administrative and organisational skills, along with your attention to detail to contribute to the team's success. The Finance and Pay Services Branch is a busy and dynamic environment where innovation and business process improvement are encouraged. We are looking for applicants who are self-motivated, willing to learn and have a desire for continuous improvement. A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months. Role responsibilities Management Accountant - several roles (AE5 and AE6 levels) Duties may include but are not limited to: • Business partnering to assist with the analysis of client area business results through the budget, forecast, and month-end processes. • Leading meetings with internal to support their understanding of financial reports and advice, including preparing and delivering any supplementary report or advice to strengthen their decision-making. • Coordinating and maintaining ASIO's external budget, preparation of external budget documentation including, portfolio budget statements and portfolio additional estimates statements. • Preparation of the Department of Finance monthly and annual reporting and entry of results in the Central Budget Management System (CBMS). • Coordinating costings and advice for New Policy Proposals (NPPs) including liaising with external agencies and stakeholders on NPPs. • Supervising, mentoring, and actively assisting junior staff to build their skills and technical knowledge. • Contributing to the development of relevant operating and accounting policies and procedures. • Fostering a collaborative and supportive culture of teamwork within the branch, division and across ASIO. Finance Officers - several roles (AE4 to AE6 levels) Duties will include but are not limited to: • Processing and administering financial transactions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash transactions, corporate credit cards, and purchase orders. • Undertaking month-end processes (including reconciliations of balance sheet accounts) to deliver internal and external reporting. • Assisting in financial statements preparation, including preparation of various financial statement notes and supporting work papers and related audit queries. • Undertaking asset management practices to ensure the fixed asset register is accurate via asset stocktakes and impairment reviews, additions and disposals, project work-in-progress reviews and stakeholder engagement. • Taxation processing and reporting requirements including GST and FBT returns. • Providing advice, support and/or training on financial matters, accounting policies and procedures, statutory reporting, and taxation matters. • Contributing to the development of relevant operating and accounting policies and procedures. • Participating in the development of new practices and procedures to streamline processes and develop new and innovative ways of working. • Supervising, guiding and mentoring junior staff.
