The Opportunity This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced APS6 finance professional to join a high-performing Financial Accounting team and play a hands-on role in the delivery of statutory financial reporting. You will contribute directly to the preparation of annual financial statements, work closely with central agencies, and support audit processes in a role that offers exposure, responsibility, and technical depth. This opportunity suits someone who enjoys financial accounting, reconciliations, and problem-solving, and who takes pride in producing accurate, defensible work in a deadline-driven environment. This role is offered as a section 26 transfer at the APS6 level. The Role As part of the Financial Accounting team, you will support the delivery of high-quality financial reporting and compliance outcomes. Your responsibilities will include: Contributing to the preparation of the department’s Annual Financial Statements, including high-quality reconciliations, workpapers, accounting file notes, and position papers Preparing monthly actual financial results and reporting through the Department of Finance’s Central Budget Management System (CBMS) Completing monthly balance sheet reconciliations and preparing month-end journals Providing clear and practical financial accounting and reporting advice to internal stakeholders Supporting audit processes and maintaining effective working relationships with the Australian National Audit Office and the Department of Finance The Ideal Person You are an experienced APS finance professional who enjoys technical accounting work and understands the importance of accuracy, documentation, and compliance. Ideally you will bring: APS experience at the APS6 level, with exposure to financial accounting and reporting Strong experience in reconciliations, journals, and end-of-month processes Familiarity with annual financial statements and whole-of-government reporting frameworks Confidence working with central agencies and auditors A methodical, organised approach and the ability to meet tight reporting deadlines Strong communication skills and the ability to build professional relationships across finance and non-finance teams This role is well-suited to someone who values quality work, enjoys structured financial environments, and is looking to continue their APS career in a close-knit team. An existing baseline security clearance is mandatory for this role.
