The key duties of the position include The Role As a Communications Engineer for Joint Project 9101 Phase 1 (JP9101), you will provide specialist engineering assurance for high-frequency (HF) communication systems across the capability lifecycle. Your responsibilities include applying engineering principles to assess compliance, identify risks, and ensure technical integrity within Defence governance frameworks. You will review technical documentation, evaluate system performance against requirements, and provide expert advice to support capability outcomes. This role requires strong knowledge of communication engineering principles, familiarity with Defence standards, and the ability to operate within structured engineering processes to deliver secure and resilient communications. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate is an experienced communications engineer with a sound understanding of HF systems and engineering assurance practices. You should be able to interpret complex technical information, assess compliance, and provide clear recommendations. Attributes such as analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective stakeholder engagement are essential. A Bachelor of Engineering (or Washington Accord equivalent), experience in Defence or complex communications environments, and eligibility for a security clearance will be highly regarded.
