Role Title: Communications Engineer Primary Responsibilities: This role provides communications engineering assurance for Defence Maritime Vessels by conducting design reviews, design acceptance, and technical certification under delegation from the Principal Engineer. It ensures engineering outputs comply with legislation, standards, and Authorised Engineering Organisation requirements, supports delivery of project milestones within the shipbuilding program, and actively manages technical, environmental, and safety risks to maintain capability integrity and program success. The key responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to: - Perform the function of the Communications Engineer subject matter expert - Obtain and exercise a Delegated Technical Authority within the field of Communications Engineering including communications, electronic systems, navigation systems, situational awareness systems, command and control systems and sensors - Undertake Design Review, Design Acceptance, and Technical Certification of Communications Engineering functions for Defence maritime vessels. - Support the development of key documentation within the Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO) under the Principal Engineer (e.g. Engineering management Plan, Technical Certification Plan) - Support the review of classification society Approved documentation and identify where additional engineering resources are required to undertake review (e.g. marine engineering, electrical, mechanical, etc.) - Review, comment and Approval of engineering deliverables in line with Contracted time frames. - Work with the System Safety team to identify any hazards resident within the Communications Engineering elements of the design and characterise the risks associated with these hazards. - Identify any technical risks and develop technical risk assessments for the consideration of the Principal Engineer. - Support the management of requirements, engineering baselines, undertake stakeholder discussions, review Integrated Logistics Support documentation, review technical reports and review V&V documentation. - Participate in technical tender evaluation activities as required. - Mentoring activities to support the development of staff knowledge and skills within the Engineering Services team to ensure knowledge and know-how within the Program. Essential Requirements: - Demonstrated long term experience in an Acquisition or Shipbuilding role. - Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (electrical, mechatronics, mechanical) - Previous experience and knowledge with the design or design review of communications, electronic systems, navigation systems, situational awareness systems, command and control systems and sensors.
