Introduction Disaster Relief Australia (DRA) brings together the skills and experience of veterans and volunteers to help communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disaster. Operating nationally, DRA works in fast-moving, operationally complex environments where strong coordination, planning and field capability are critical to success. We are seeking an Operations Coordinator to play a key role within the Disaster Relief & Recovery Team (DRRT). This position supports the planning, coordination and execution of recovery, preparedness, engagement and training activities across the region, enabling effective and safe operational outcomes. This role contributes directly to DRRT operational capability and readiness. It is well suited to someone who enjoys planning, coordinating people and resources, and spending time in the field supporting real-world operations. While knowledge of DRA’s internal operational processes is advantageous, it is not essential — systems, processes and frameworks can be taught. This is a part-time, fixed-term position (28 hours per week) through to 30 June 2026, with flexibility across office, remote and field-based work. Description What you’ll do Support the operational delivery of DRRT training, engagement and recovery activities across the region Coordinate the Operations, Planning and Logistics functions within the DRRT Lead and support volunteer teams, providing clear guidance on tasking priorities and operational objectives Plan and draft Operational Orders (OpOrds) and supporting planning and preparation documentation Collaborate with National Field Operations on SOP development, documentation and organisational capability uplift Support the DRRT Associate Director and 2IC in maintaining situational awareness, including tracking activities, progress and incident-related developments Contribute to incident reporting, debriefs and post-activity reviews Support the development and coordination of Operational Skills Training (OST) activities and related OpOrds Conduct reconnaissance and damage assessment activities (including travel) to support operational planning Embed safety considerations into operational, training and engagement activities in collaboration with National Safety Work closely with Logistics Coordinators to ensure appropriate equipment and resources are available Support volunteer capability development aligned to DRA operational needs Provide accurate, timely operational updates to the DRRT Associate Director Supervise and support volunteer Operations Associates and team members Skills And Experiences What you’ll bring Strong coordination and communication skills, with the ability to work across multiple stakeholders Ability to operate effectively under pressure in dynamic and changing environments Familiarity with operational planning, logistics and coordination principles Practical experience in disaster recovery, emergency management or community operations (desirable) A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach Willingness to work flexibly, including some weekend work and infrequent travel Working arrangements 28 hours per week, with flexibility across office-based, remote and field work Fixed-term contract through to 30 June 2026 Attendance at online and in-person meetings during business hours Infrequent travel for reconnaissance and activity support As available, support and/or attend DRRT operational and training activities Why DRA Contribute directly to disaster recovery, preparedness and community resilience Work alongside dedicated professionals, volunteers and veterans Flexible working arrangements with meaningful, real-world impact Values-driven culture built on Courage, Respect, Service and Tenacity Interested – Apply Now!
