About the team The Strategy, Engagement and Research Branch is focused on: National and international online safety regulations, policies and initiatives. Engaging with industry, international stakeholders and thought leaders. Achieving demonstrable change with Safety by Design by encouraging industry to take a proactive approach to anticipating, detecting and mitigating online risks. Understanding the nature and impact of online harms. Building the evidence-base for what works to prevent and remediate online harms. The Industry Insights and Enablement Team is a small team comprising of EL1 and APS staff. It is focused on working with the technology industry to make online experiences measurably safer and is responsible for providing industry-related insights that enable eSafety's regulatory operations. We achieve this through strategic industry engagement, gathering intelligence and conducting analysis on online safety practices across the technology ecosystem, and through the creation of Safety by Design resources for, and developed in collaboration with, industry. The key duties of the position include As the Assistant Manager, Industry Insights and Enablement you will have the opportunity to contribute to the knowledge base that informs the administration of eSafety's regulatory schemes under the Online Safety Act and to assess and surface innovative industry practices related to Safety by Design. The key duties of the position include: Liaising with the higher education sector, think-tanks, industry, and independent analysts to inform horizon scanning, to understand the latest trends, and to use this knowledge to advise eSafety operations with expert specialist technology advice Producing technology online safety guidance and assisting eSafety's support service functions Undertaking routine technology research related to eSafety's regulatory functions including assessing social media performance, the efficacy of trust and safety solutions and compliance claims, the functioning of algorithms, accessibility and prevalence of harm, and new innovations to protect users online Presenting findings and updates to relevant eSafety committees and writing briefings to key stakeholders Working closely with regulatory and policy functions to help shape outcomes, respond to routine internal enquiries and provide advice on technology implications related to online safety regulation and trust and safety capabilities (e.g., scanning and classifying material, AI systems, misuse of technology to create harm) Provision of trusted advice to all arms of the business including Policy, Regulatory Enforcement, Research, Digital, Marketing and Comms.
