Full time ongoing position Salary range: $104,925 - $122,409 plus super plus salary packaging Up to $15,900 in salary packaging and hybrid WFH & office model About the role The Data Quality Specialist strengthens Victoria Legal Aid's ability to use data as a trusted and strategic asset. The role ensures data used in reporting, decision-making, and service delivery is accurate, complete, consistent, timely, and fit for purpose. Working closely with the Data Quality Lead, this role drives operational data quality work, implements data quality management processes, supports governance processes, and provides clear, practical advice that helps staff across VLA meet our data quality standards. By coordinating remediation efforts, monitoring progress, and preventing new issues, the role contributes directly to improving VLA's ability to deliver services, manage risk, and meet statutory and ethical obligations. Responsibilities Contribute to the development of data quality processes and remediation plans, ensuring they are practical, proportionate, and aligned to organisational standards. Track and report on recurring or systemic data quality issues to help inform organisational priorities and improvement planning. Monitor the implementation of agreed data quality initiatives, following up with responsible areas to maintain momentum, identify when support is needed, and escalate issues where required. Undertake analysis to identify data quality issues and their underlying causes, perform data validation. Review changes to identify impacts on data quality. Coordinate and support the work of the Data Quality Working Group, including meeting preparation, documentation, follow-up actions, and progress reporting to the group and other governance bodies. Maintain and refine tools, templates, and reference materials that support staff in meeting data quality standards. Act as a point of contact for operational teams on data quality queries, providing data quality management guidance tailored to their context. This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country. About you As our ideal candidate, you will meet the following key selection criteria : Understanding of data quality principles and practices with demonstrated ability to develop and apply data standards, quality controls and business rules to improve organisational data. Experience identifying and diagnosing data quality issues using profiling, validation, or root cause analysis techniques, and developing sustainable, proportionate solutions. Capability to assess the data quality implications of process or system changes, translating data quality requirements into data management process requirements and design. Strong relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and foster the adoption of data quality standards across diverse teams. Experience coordinating governance or working group activities, including preparation of materials, tracking of actions, and reporting to decision-making forums. Qualifications and experience Relevant tertiary qualification in business management, data analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience (mandatory). Experience working in a governance, data and business analysis, or data management team within a complex organisation (highly desirable).
