The Infrastructure Engineer / Systems Administrator is responsible for the design, deployment, configuration and ongoing support of secure, Linux-first infrastructure supporting a discrete operational network used for the collection, ingestion and transfer of operational data into AFPNet systems. The role operates within a high-assurance environment and works closely with AFP technical staff and vendors to ensure infrastructure solutions are secure, reliable, auditable and aligned with AFP operational and security requirements. A strong focus on automation, infrastructure-as-code, and knowledge transfer is central to the role. NV1 clearance is highly preferred. Requirements What you'll do: Plan, deploy, configure and support infrastructure solutions across physical, virtual, network, storage and operating system layers within a discrete operational environment. Ensure reliable, secure and performant ingest of operational data into AFPNet networks and systems. Provide Infrastructure Engineer / Systems Administrator services under the direction of nominated AFP personnel. Provide technical direction and oversight to vendors delivering professional services on behalf of the AFP, ensuring compliance with security, architectural and operational constraints. Design, implement and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using Ansible and Git/GitLab, including CI/CD pipelines to support safe, repeatable and auditable change. Configure and administer Linux (Ubuntu) systems, including hardening, patching, optimisation and troubleshooting. Configure and support Windows Server systems and services where required (e.g. Active Directory, ADFS, certificate services). Manage and optimise virtualised environments using VMware vSphere and ESXi, including lifecycle management and performance tuning. Support enterprise storage, backup and recovery solutions to ensure data integrity, availability and compliance. Contribute to secure network design and operations, including firewall policy management, segmentation and secure connectivity. Work effectively as part of a small, multidisciplinary team in a high-security operational context. What you'll bring: Proven experience designing, deploying and supporting Linux-first (Ubuntu) infrastructure in secure or high-assurance environments. Demonstrated experience configuring and maintaining Windows Server systems and services , including Active Directory and related components. Strong hands-on experience with automation and Infrastructure-as-Code , including Ansible playbooks/roles and Git/GitLab workflows and CI/CD pipelines. Demonstrated expertise with VMware vSphere and ESXi , including lifecycle management, performance optimisation and operational support. Experience designing and supporting infrastructure across the full stack (physical, virtual, network, storage). Networking experience with Cisco firewalls and switches , including policy configuration, network segmentation and secure connectivity. Ability to design and operate solutions that address security, testing, operational and lifecycle requirements (monitoring, logging, backup, patching, runbooks). Strong documentation skills, with the ability to produce clear procedures, diagrams and technical artefacts to support knowledge transfer. Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external vendors in a controlled and security-focused environment. Desirable experience with containers, monitoring and alerting platforms, data ingest pipelines, and Federal Government security and change management frameworks.
