The APS6 Infrastructure and Network Engineer is a generalist technical role within the Infrastructure Operations section of the Chief Information Officer Branch at the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC). This role supports the delivery and maintenance of secure, high-availability ICT services across desktop, server, and network environments. Working under the direction of the Assistant Director, Server Operations, the successful candidate will provide hands-on support for end-user devices and applications (including bespoke systems), assist with server maintenance, and contribute to the stability and performance of ACIC's network infrastructure. This role is ideal for a technically capable professional who enjoys variety and is eager to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment. This position is based in Canberra and supports ACIC's mission to make Australia hostile to criminal exploitation by ensuring the resilience and integrity of its network infrastructure. The key duties of the position include As an Infrastructure and Network Engineer, you will: Provide hands on support for end-user devices and applications (including bespoke systems). Assist with server maintenance, and contribute to the stability and performance of ACIC's network infrastructure. Assist with troubleshooting, performance tuning, and contributing to the continuous improvement of network services in alignment with the agency's operational and security requirements. Your skills and capabilities We invite applications from people with the following experience, skills and attributes: Technical Breadth: Experience supporting Windows desktop environments, RHEL and Windows Server platforms, and basic network troubleshooting (e.g., switch port tracing, firewall rules, DNS/DHCP). Problem Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve issues across multiple technology domains, including bespoke software applications with limited documentation. Service Orientation: Familiarity with ITIL-aligned service management processes, including incident, change, and problem management. Communication and Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders, vendors, and partner agencies. Security Awareness: Understanding of the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Essential Eight maturity model.
