The Transportation Area Manager is responsible for managing yard operations in coordination with Dock, Receive and Ship teams to ensure FIFO processing and mitigate Customer Experience impact risks. An ideal candidate has a background in transportation operations and has excellent program management skills. They has the ability to lead and mentor people; analyses data and make sound recommendations in an often ambiguous environment. One of the main responsibilities in this role is to standardize and improve processes; while analyzing and eliminating root cause of defects within the current systems. This job will require exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence change at a local (site) and global level. Key Job Responsibilities: - Create, oversee, and drive a culture of safety and well-being, - Partner with site leadership, transportation partners to improve On-time Arrival and Departure Performance of trucks in and out of yards, and deliver high Customer Experience metrics, - Communicate between multiple stakeholders to streamline flow of trucks in the yard, - Accountable to report yard performance to the local site leadership, identify root causes for structural issues and drive resolution with multiple stakeholders, - Proactively identify and lead process improvement initiatives and implementation of Lean tools. - Work within various time constraints to meet critical business needs; while measuring and identifying activities performed, - Ability to work some weekend shifts as needed (this team provides tactical support to Amazon’s fulfillment network 7 days/week), - Lead, manage and develop small teams, - Respond to and manage incidents in conjunction with various stakeholders A day in the life You’ll work on a shift pattern at one of our sites, making sure it is as productive as it can be. Your main focus will be to own and drive a culture of safety and uphold quality and shift performance standards. You’ll also oversee process improvements within your area and drive implementation. A typical day is varied, including everything from routine team management and daily operational responsibilities to process improvement and wide-scale operational contingency tasks. You’ll also be a role model and mentor to your team. These investments in people and capabilities improve speed, reduce costs, deliver on time performance, and enable defect free execution for our customers, carriers, and drivers" - Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization, - Knowledge of Microsoft Excel at an advanced level, including: pivot tables, macros, index/match, vlookup, VBA, data links, etc, - Experience building and growing relationships with internal and external partners, - Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays. - Experience working in operations, transportation, supply chain, logistics, or relevant field, - Experience in performance metrics, process improvement or lean techniques experience, - Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and process improvement methodologies, - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or equivalent qualification.
