An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join a globally significant infrastructure project supporting one of the world’s most advanced scientific facilities. This is a contract-based FIFO role (2:1 roster) working on a remote site, with flights, accommodation, and meals provided. You will play a key role across the construction and commissioning phases, overseeing mechanical, hydraulic, and fire systems on a complex, high-profile build. About the Role As the Mechanical Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the mechanical scope across multiple site facilities, including HVAC, fire protection, compressed air, and gas suppression systems. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality delivery in a remote FIFO environment. This role suits a proactive, hands-on engineer who thrives on-site, enjoys problem-solving, and is comfortable taking ownership in a dynamic project setting. Key Responsibilities Manage and supervise mechanical subcontractors on site Oversee installation and commissioning of: HVAC systems (including chilled water systems) Fire protection systems Compressed air systems Gas suppression systems Coordinate with electrical and structural teams to ensure integrated delivery Raise and resolve Technical Queries (TQs) and construction issues Conduct quality inspections and ensure compliance with Australian standards Support testing and inspection activities and assist with QA/QC documentation Prepare and submit progress reports to the Project Manager Ensure strict adherence to safety requirements and lead by example on site About You (Mandatory Requirements) Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering 4–5 years’ experience in mechanical engineering within construction or commissioning projects Strong knowledge of Australian standards and codes (mechanical & fire systems) White Card Valid Driver’s Licence Ability to pass FIFO medicals and site inductions Strong communication skills and a practical, solutions-focused mindset Desirable Experience Experience working on remote or FIFO-based projects Proven ability to manage subcontractors and coordinate multidisciplinary teams Experience with mechanical design and commissioning activities Familiarity with document control systems and QA/QC processes Experience using AutoCAD and Navisworks Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Contract & Roster Details Contract Duration: January 2026 – May 2026 Roster: FIFO 2:1 Hours: 11.5 hours per day 80.5 hours per week 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM (30-minute break) Location: Remote site (on-site only) Travel: Flights, accommodation, and meals provided There is a slight possibility of extension, however this cannot be guaranteed. Remuneration Day Rate: $535 – $596 per day (dependent on experience) Allowance: $150 per day LAHA Rate Type: Flat day rate Eligibility Open to Australian Citizens, Permanent Residents, or visa holders with valid working rights and at least 12 months remaining on their visa
